Little Lane - New Bridge Open !

The Little Lane foot-bridge has been replaced in April 2010

The previous historic twin-span masonry bridge obstructed the flow-away of water in the brook far more than does this new single-span wooden bridge.

We await the first heavy and prolonged rains of the year to see the difference!

There is also some news on the wider planning scene reported to us from Packington Nook Residents' Association.

"The coalition government has said they will scrap the regional development targets imposed over recent years and put planning policy back in the hands of local councils.  That doesn't mean that new development isn't going to happen, but it's now up to North West Leicestershire Council to decide on both volumes and locations of housing and industrial development in our district.

The most recent number proposed for Ashby is, at most, an extra 250 houses by 2026, which is a big reduction from the 4500 being proposed eighteen months ago.  Sustainability and the effect on the River Mease habitat are still issues weighing heavily on the planners' minds."
