The elected councillors of our Packington Parish Council seem generally keen NOT to spend our money - anyone who has attended some of their monthly meetings will know of their painstaking dedication to avoiding waste. They aim to keep our village precept (the village part of Council Tax) as low as possible. You can come along to any of their meetings to observe what they do - usually on the second Tuesday in the month, Eg 9th March, 13th April 2010.
The Parish Council have so far been very keen to continue with the village magazine, but now want to know what YOU think, and have asked village residents to complete a survey.
Each household has had a paper copy delivered already, and an online copy is available to be completed
Please make your views known by 31st March 2010

Sensational HALT to local development -Packington Nook ? - perhaps not for 5 yearsLocal Development in the River Mease catchment (including Packington Nook) will be put on hold until a solution is found for maintaining the water quality of the River Mease. The solutions are potentially expensive and the (North West Leicestershire District) Council has been informed that improvements to the sewerage treatment works would not be possible until 2015 at the earliest. What seems to be a 5-year minimum delay to what would have been a huge development on our village doorstep is the welcome impact of the decision taken at the North West Leics District Council's Cabinet meeting on 2nd February. These are difficult economic times, and one suggestion for reducing the precept has been made in the village. The Parish Council pays about £6 per household to cover most of the printing cost of the bi-monthly village magazine, the Packington Post. If you pay Council Tax, you are paying that £6 a year - that's about £1 for each copy.
