PMG Evening  "Information Teach-In"

Your IT Questions Answered Live

Thursday 9th February 2012 at 7:15pm

Memorial Hall Meeting Room

On 7:15pm Thursday 9th February 2012 we meet for an aperitif of sherry or fruit juice to be followed by a discussion evening, on the lines of an "Information Teach-In". (This is a change to our advertised program of talks.)

Information handling is something we all grew up with. We all went to libraries, and read newspapers. Even during the Great War, probably every family in the land knew about telegrams, and dreaded any of their family or friends receiving them. We all knew what "SOS" and "Mayday" stood for, without having to have been maritime or airborne radio operators. We could all read noticeboards and street hoardings.  We all knew how to write cheques, holiday Post Cards and Thank-You letters. We all knew about receiving letters - and bills!

These days, however, the handling of information has become highly mechanised, so that small gadgets in our pockets can seem like magic in their abilities to communicate around the world.  Tonight we have the chance to pick the brains of one of our number who not only has a broad understanding of the gamut of modern information handling, but is acknowledged as usually being able to explain it, too.

You are asked to let one of our committee have your questions in advance.

Emailed questions well in advance will be particularly welcomed, or telephone a committee member or drop a note through the door of a committee member if you prefer.

There will be a short introductory talk, perhaps with a display of various pieces of information hardware, then we can leap straight into the business of answering YOUR questions on computers and modern information handling.

We look forward to an intriguing evening where we all have the chance to learn from each other about this fascinating and omnipresent topic.
